I'm completely fascinated by this book, by Ted Kerasote. My MIL gave it to me. Wow. I'm halfway through, started reading yesterday.
If you haven't read it, do. If you have read it, what did you think? It makes so much sense to me, like Temple Grandin's and Patricia McConnell's books did.
This video always makes me cry. The look of love and joy on the dog's and the owner's faces is beautiful. Enjoy:)
Horses will return, after this brief but important, canine interruption.
The lessons taught by our dogs can be just as important.
Dancing with any animal involves communication, in the animal's language. How amazing that Merle was able to show his partner the ancient language dogs learned for communicating with us.

Glad to see you're back. Dogs are a pleasant change. Looking forward to more on the horse.
I was wondering if you ever found out why reiners are required to back? I was thinking that it may have to do with the tension in the rope when roping cattle.
Go GL,
Best wishes,
Sarah
Sarah, I agree. I believe it's because they must immediately pick up the slack and back to tighten the rope when a calf (or whatever) has been roped. Now you've got me wanting to do some more research. :) :)
Love the video GL. Our dogs are such an important part of us and it's a special relationship, that's for sure.
I'm going to look up your book and see if I can find it here.
I love that video! great to see the trust and comunication with her and her dog ! Besides it is a golden and we know I love them!
You guyd could be right about the reiners and backing ,it makes sense , still hate a horse running back when I am on it though!
Happy to wait for the horse stuff GL, just so long as I know it is comming!
I truly enjoy watching the competitions with the dogs dancing-
now let's see that with a cat!

Oh, yeah, LG, I LOVE the Chaplin one.
I wish I could capture Blaze's scratching backward behaviour. Sometimes after pooping, and to say, I'm finished with my duties. i.e. doodies.
I keep laughing at her, she'll get it.
The doxie's adorable too! Great jumper:)
Thanks!
I'm StilL drying my eyes, after reading Merle.

I bought Merle's Door awhile ago, and look forward to reading it. Didn't his owner give him total freedom?
I love golden retrievers...our old golden girl is 15.5, and her half-brother is almost 12.
Oh man, what a happy dog. That was pretty cool.
