Happy Thanksgiving, United Mostly States of America! Must be nice to have such a late harvest:)
OH, and do not, repeat, NOT go to Union Square's blog! I badgered/bludgeoned/picketed her to post another story, and, well, I feel terrible. I'm feeling tooo guilty to even READ it.
TERRIBLE. Guilt. Oh, the humanity!!
Breaking News!!
Speaking of which again, the OSPCA has now filed cruelty charges against good old Tim Trow, President of the Toronto Humane Society. His GM, and vets, too.
It's sad, and pathetic. I need to apply for his job. I know I could have done better. Oh, the argument I had with him. Not screaming, shouting. But, wow, arrogant and haughty, I think is the best way to describe him.
Anybody remember why I argued with him? I do. About a dog named Bandit. Lab/pit-mix, was still being rehabbed, two years after putting 200 stitches into a child's face. My darlin' red girl gave my nephew a warning nip, once, to the face. Bandit obviously didn't have much inhibition. Sorry, 200 stitches? The dog liked it. And would like it again. That he still wasn't ready to be adopted spoke volumes. I saw one picture of him, his eyes chilled me. I'd love to know what really happened to him. I'd be happy to be proven wrong in my suspicions. I just don't think it's wise use of time and resources.
That Animal Planet TV show, Dogtown, is a case in point. They have the time and the resources. Good trainers, good layout, good climate. And the space. And the TV show:(
But to me, that's excessive waste of funds that could help find homes for city dogs like my old girl. Worth that extra effort. There are bad dogs. Rare, but they are there. I, to this day, believe Bandit was one of the rarities, a blood-lust dog. I'm still awaiting truths about him.
And I stopped supporting the THS, after 12 years of giving them money, after that argument.
So, there.

200 stitches in someone's face?
This poor scarred soul should stare Tim Trow in the eye each morning and ask him if this dog is worthy of rehab.
I have no tolerance for that kind of behavior.
Agreed, GL. And I bet after using unknown amount of funds on rehabing this dog, so many more went without.
What was Trow arrested for? Gotta link?
Just the breathless TV news reports so far.
Volunteers insisting it's all fabrication, under-currents of political struggles seem unfounded. They have been charged with cruelty to animals.
That's where the OSPCA has jurisdiction.
It's so sad.
The OSPCA had conducted an investigation on THS a little while ago. Based on their observations, they've brought these charges, I'd assume. They were taken away in 'cuffs.
Cops, and EVERYthing.
To Any Animal Rescue, done right.
THS's nutty stance started a long time ago.
Cats can NOT be adopted out, if they are going to be mousers. Cruel, to the mouse.
CruelER, on your wiring.
Oh, I just hope the critters are looked after:(
PROPERLY.
Rationally.
Sometimes they just cannot be rehabbed.200 stitches is an angry dog!
When will activists realise that instincts are bredinto these animals ! CATS LIKE TO MOUSE for shits sake!
200 stitches in a child's face adds up to one dead dog. Sorry, but sometimes animals can go criminal just like some people. And how would that person FEEL looking at the scars in the mirror, when the damn dog is still OUT THERE. Um, sorry, I adore dogs and own several, but they damn well know better than to bite. I explain to them that God gave them four legs to run away from brat children, and make sure they have a safe place to run to. A warning nip is one thing, but 200 stitches?!

AGGGGHHHHHHH
from the article.
"Toronto police moved into Mr. Trow's second-floor office, where Bandit, Mr. Trow's rescued pit-bull-Labrador cross, lunged at them. They pepper-sprayed the dog and brought it under control, Mr. Avery said.
Bandit first made news in 2003 when he bit a three-year-old's head, leaving a gash that required 200 stitches. The city ordered Bandit euthanized, but the THS refused and the dog came to live in Mr. Trow's office. Former staff said that Bandit was aggressive and badly bit at least two more people."
Well, there ya GO.
Nice! Dumbass didn't get the hint when the dog kept biting huh? Now he has been apprehended again AND pepper sprayed ! that will calm him right down, should be a model citezen now...AAHAHA
Here's another truth about Mr Tim.
He doesn't neuter his own pets.
Really. When I spoke to a staffer, back when I was arguing with Mr. Trow about Bandit, she mentioned that, and how incongruous a stance it was.
Spay neuter your own pets, Mr. Trow!!!
Maybe we can just spay Mr Trow on accident. So sorry, didn't know he needed a neuter.
Un freakin' believable!
You go GL. If a dog bites a child in the face it is good sleep to you you ungrateful bastard.
I am completely with Kestrel on that.
We have a no kill shelter whose board infuriates me. They should spend 30 seconds in the kennel with some of what they think can be rehabbed.
Not their skin. Or, blood.
And the 50+ that don;t get a chance because of the one bad seed?
Grrrrrr...
Cats are not meant to mouse? Oh crap don't tell the crew here that K?
Promise? I could have an insurrection on my hands.lol
Whew. Even if it was my beloved pet, if it bit a child like that I'd have to put my dog down.
I actually advocated a friend put down her horse. Nasty bastard. If he bucked you off...and he'd try, he'd turn back and stomp you into the ground. He meant to hurt you. I saw him do it twice. Once barrelracing, once on the beach.
The first time was the beach. She went off, and he kept going a few strides...turned back and started rearing and stomping on her with his fronts. He was over 15 feet away from her when he turned back.
Next time was at Orick. He dumped her. They were hauling butt. He was quite a bit beyond her when he came back. He nailed her four times that day. She curled in a ball and was trying to roll way. I think he broke some of her ribs.
She asked me if I had any ideas on what would cure him of this. I said, "Lead." She was pretty pissed. I was actually pretty serious.
He was also self injuring. If there was away for him to hurt himself, he'd do it. He ended up being put down a month ago. He'd hurt himself again on pasture, and she couldn't keep him comfortable anymore, and had to make the call. There were some real nice quailities about this horse, but ooohh boy there were some bad ones.
Oh, and 13th...need to post.
Lunged Maisa today. There were puddles in the arena...he drug me over to so he could splash through them. Goofy damn horse. lol
pingety pingety ping ping
Cruelty to animals, the sick bastard. He needs lead.
A pit cross. Why doesn't that surprise me. There are reasons why wolves and wolf dogs don't make good pets. Let me give you a hint...THEY ARE FRIGIN' DANGEROUS. If you can't handle being viciously attack by your own dog and then resume a normal relationship then don't get a wolf dog. The idiots are breed the same wolf dog instincts to attack their own pack members into Pits. What a mess.
Ping-at-i-ping.

Hey, Gator!
That site is hilarious!
Too funny, I was just thinking last night we hadn't heard from ya in a while!
Thanks for being there. Great to see your avatar again!
HP, holy crappolly, there are indeed some plain nasty critters out there.
No shame in admitting it, but that's the safest step to take. I'm glad she put him down, she's lucky she wasn't seriously hurt.
It's not unreasonable to realize that some animals can be bad/evil/crazy, just like some people.
hah, Maisa the swimmer horse:)
Have you been hearing the rest of the details, BHM?
They found a mummified cat in a cage, in the ceiling at the THS???
Breaks my heart:(
arrrrgh. My net is wonky today..
Poor little baby. It makes me want to cry.
GL- thanks for the LTJ info.
As for the other issue, sounds like Mr. trow needs a lead injection himself. Wouldn't take me no 200 stitches to decide that! My friend had a pit, she raises Am Staffs, very similar. She is well versed in Dogs. Behavior, training, showing, rescue...
Augie went for her one day, out of the blue. She couldn't pin down any reason as to why? The third time was the final straw. She put him down that day. Called the vet immediately and said we are on our way in. There was no way she could trust him, let alone adopt him out.
HP- I second you on that one. Some horses you just cannot 'fix' and when it's something like you described, the things required to even try to fix it? Not going to be pretty, at all. Timing is key and usually the one who 'gets to' fix it has already been injured trying to fix others with issues. At some point even they no longer deal with horses like that.
I groomed once for a polo player whose best playing pony was a mean evil bitch named Jaguar. He told me if when I went to catch her she didn't let me come right up to her then DON'T TREY TO CATCH HER. Apparently, she had her "off days" (do horses get PMS?) and when pushed to be caught she would rear and come at you striking! Chased him all the way across the pasture one day and he barely got under the fence. People could ride/walk by her no problem for hours as she was tied to the trailer and she wouldn't bat an eye and then as soon as somebody wasn't pay attention and would get within firing range - bam! Kick to kill. And she would never pin her ears or anything. Just go for it.
As a polo pony she was incredibly competitive and even though she was far from the fastest, she was so into the game and smart that she was hell to play against. If he didn't ride her first she threw a conniption fit.
As his groom I learned she was all about business, quick brush and pick, tack, tail tie and LEAVE HER ALONE. No petting and fussing. He always had a bunch of stupid girlfriends that were trying to "make friends" with her. Part of my job was distracting said girlfriends from getting themselves killed by increasingly pissed off Jaguar.
Funny though, she was his best broke horse (his string was mostly young and barely broke!) and if I ponied she was always the most reliable to do so off of. As long as I got right down to business!
A lot of the other players he played with thought he should put her down, I always wondered what happened to her.
I knew a horse like that PF. All business. If I was grooming him...he'd sling his head back and look at me, "You already brushed that spot. Get with the program." He got friendlier with age, but when he was young he was a shit.
Yeah, Horspor. I never knew her (she was the dam of a horse I grew up riding), but my grandfather used to have a roping horse that if he missed the calf she would turn her head and bite him in the boot! That used to be very entertaining for the crowd at the posse events. I never heard that she was mean otherwise, however. Just really serious about her job.
TB mare my gramps took off the track in the 50s!
