Words, who kneW if you typed them, you might learn to talk them better? Grammar police, pah! I have improved my speech, somehow. Duh. I don't think I can blame it on mentally pausing. We all do that, all of our lives, anyway. Stop, and ThinK.
I'll inspire myself by way of AofG, aGain. You better start blogging/writing, MissSophiadillo, as you find the time. No rUSh! Keep playing the pipes, 4sure. The world needs more bag-pipes.
Kestrel, too, the dialogue between the two as we talked about how it feels to ride was fascinating. Sorry, not just how it feels to RidE.
Every single moment of his/her day is either his own, or shared with you, if he'll let you. If your two energies aren't clicking, nothing's gonna happen. If you aren't aware of him, every minute you can smell him, touch him, Lucky people can SEE him, right, AofG, for goodness sakes, you aren't safe.
My useless Barn Manager at Tad's first barn told me a tale one day. He'd been working around a new gorgeous OTTB, and was of course gabbling away at someone. He was bent down, and reached under the horse's belly to do something, and the horse kicked him in the head, while trying to kick at a fly. I didn't say anything, but you know what I thought. Why weren't you aware?
Being unaware means getting hurt. Maybe a little, maybe very badly hurt, if you're unlucky/dumb, dead if you're extremely, well, y'know. Unaware. Boy, will you EveR be unaware. NeveR ride alone, if you're unaware of your horse. Never, ever, well, I'll be quiet, now. Hah.
The Place of Detachment, that AofG & kestrel "gestated/gestalted" in the (what else) CommentS was very cool.
People often ride the horse, as if he isn't there. No, okay, that's mean. I've often seen people doing this, through the years. Shoot me.
Hah. Missed.
Heck, I've done it before. Not paying attention, unaware, detached, boom, ground, thank YOU. You are detached, for sure, once you hit ground.
I'm very polite to my horses. They are blameless, as long as you know what you're doing. They respond to kind fair treatment. That doesn't mean kissin' 'em all the time:) Well, okay, go ahead, it's your horse after all.
(905 nw tdot anyone have a horse?)
They do need fair discipline, as you establish your rules, calmly, yes, Cesar, assertively. Not ROUGH!! Never in anger, or frustration. NeveR. EVER. If you don't know his rules, you are in huge trouble. Huge. Rules include conformation, temperament, age, breeding, soundness, health, sex, etc.. They are who he is. Better figure him out.
If you're not paying attention to your horse, and he's not responding well, blame yourself. Because, for sure, it's your fault. You've detached from him, why should he listen to you?? Horses do not need to be blamed for a bad day. They have no bad days, except the ones WE give them.
On that happy note, my idea is this. FANTASY ALERT!! I have 3 million gabillion dollars. I have a 50 stall barn. I have great help. I'm gonna run the best darn riding school EveR. I'd have rolling hills, trees, water, lots of safe fencing. Acres and acres.. The students would have their pick of the various breed/types that are out there. I'd have the best trained, soundest, most VariouS breeds/types. I'd..... please continue. Add stalls if needed.
Wouldn't it be so cool?
People riding well-trained creatures! People learning horsemanship FIRST. Oh, right. They have that. It's called Europe. What is it with Canada & the US?? meeeowwww-hissssss. Okay, that WAS mean. Sorry:)
Horses don't lie.
Otherwise, back to Monday-dreaming, I have this great place,'k? I'd have everybody, dressage,hunters,western,jumpers,3dayers,
saddleseat, driving, reining, cutting, barrels, trail+riding (yes, it's hard, you're riding a darned Horse aren't you??) heckquitation etc. etc. etc.
Oh, the poor lost, last tangential point, I'm trying to make? New Riders, learning Riders, re-riders, AnY riders would benefit from riding lots of different types and styles and disciplines, if they aren't going to be able to ride a lot. There is no substitute for hours and miles in the tack, and on the ground, grooming him, learning about him. Letting him be The Horse. You Rider. PaY Attention.
Butch might kick you in the head.
Oh, pictures of Flip, from the day we got her. Straight behind and a little to the right, across the pond, you can see Rusty's freshly dug cemetery.. Only two weeks gone, at that point.
You can see how glad Flip is to have met my husband, too. FliP was exHausted. Flip knew how weak emotionally I was then. I got her too soon after the loss.. It was hard on her, poor darlin' FliP, sounds JUST like my old Rusty dog.
Happy Birthday, my wee black dog. My Flip. FlipFlip! She's a born paper-shredder-worrier, the sheep DID beat her up, before I got her, with her female owner. Must be So embarrassing, still. Flip is descended from illustrious herding lines.
Flip's first owner admits that she rushed Flip, because Flip showed so much early promise. But she shook Flip's confidence at their first herding trial, and poor Flip was placed in with very experienced, cranky sheep and an over-anxious owner. The sheep stomped the crap out of Flip. Flip lost her confidence that day, as her owner wasn't aware of her dog. She didn't look at Flip. She looked at the potential, but not the actual dog.
I bet Flip relives her humiliation, in front of her mom, and dam. And relieves the stress with paper. Flip was a kennel dog, mostly. Flip lived under the shadow of her over-bearing dam for a very long time. I was told when I got her, at a year and a half, that she'd always been the owner's husband's FavouritE dog.
Flip likes men a little better. Okay, a LOT better.
Can't say I blame her.
:)
Flip loves me madly, don't misunderstand, and she teaches me a lot, as great dogs do. Flip is the sweetest old soul I've ever met. She loves everybody. But pain lingers, even in justa dog's brain. Animals always remember a painful situation. It's called survival.
Flip is 6years old... I sang Happy Birthday to her,and she got all mushy and snuggley. Well, more than usual, even for her. Flip is a love-bucket, pour it on. Sweet heart, Flip has. I'll bet she was trying to ask the sheep politely:)
Or Flip hadn't studied Bah-Ram-Ewe, to your fleece, your breed, your wool be true.
Bah, Ram, Ewe, Flip, ouch. I love the movie "Babe"..
I hope I write a little more coherently, after dinner. Can you tell, NCC?
Thanks, hon, sorry I was cranky, I do need sustenance, and running on empty increases the blathering, and decreases the coherence factors. A Tad. Okay, a large Shire-Sized tad.
Thanks for reading, kind folks. I HAFTA learn to eat before I type..
To Animals, and the awareness they deserve. They are so aware of us.

Flip is beautimonious. I want her.
GL- expand on how Flip came to you. What sheep beat her up?
Hey, it isn't long enough YeT??
jeeeeeeezzzzzzzz
I WAS TALKING ABOUT HORSES.
I think..
dinner's on....
You know, NCC, sheep?
Bah-Bah?
(snickers)
Yay, pictures of Flip!
What a happy, happy dog. Knew she'd won the lottery, that dog did.
:) Keep on writing, GL
Alright, I thrashed most of it, and discovered typing is better, after food.
Night all:)
Thanks for being there..
Hah, my old Morgan hates sheep. Pastured him with another buddy horse, and sheep, bad idea. The two horses developed the sport of sheep tossing....grab wool, fling, sheep goes baaaa...splat. Flip would love my Morgan!
Sad to say, horses then graduated to llama tossing and got thrown out of the pasture. Actually, not so bad. Some llama owners think it's funny that horses are afraid of their sea monster moving beasties. Morgan puts the scuttle right on them!

Oh my!! That image...I can't get it out of my head. Funny, but those poor sheep.
Trooper was put in with sheep while I was farm-sitting at my friends place. He hadn't been gelded for a second time yet so he was Mr. Snort-Stallion. He was really good at sheep-guarding and would run off anything. The bears, wolves, cougars, and the Rottweilers where frighten of him.
To the sheep he was their protection. He would herd them and then stand like a statue while guarding them. Well, that was until he spotted Mennonites.
Trooper was always on the look out for Mennonites to harass. If he saw a buggy coming he'd gallop up to them all stallion snorty and prancy with his mane and tail in the wind and his neck arched. He'd then proceed to follow them along the fence whining at them. He'd then start trotting and galloping while whining and tried to get them to race him. Needless to say, he didn't have any takers and would be left in the field with this puzzled look on his face.
When he herded the sheep he was amazingly gentle. He also cut cattle on his own and would herd the barn cats over to the fence so he could pat them.
GL,
Cute, cute puppy.
Happy birthday Flip. Poor thing. Some sheep with stomp the life out anything..can anyone say "Icelandics".
I love Babe. Pigs are soooo cute.
Back to read the revised post. Sigh.......
Morning all! Long night here
Tired... I hate being up ever hour to hour and a half... Thanks boys...
I have to do some searching for a horse trainer... Gotta find someone who can get callie to MOVE. Damn horse has lead feet. And I don't want to screw her up. argh
I'll be back after a bit. Gotta get the oldest ready and on the bus.
NCC, well, you have only yourself to blame, hon, but thanks, the way it was reading, after I ate, was bad, berry, berry, bad.
I THINK, it's better, now? I was able to get to the point I was trying to make in the first place, so thanks for that. I love constructive critiques!! And gentle proddings... And TANGENTS!
NdA, lead feet are a challenge..
You'll get lots of help from here. Is she a re-train? Young, old, bad broke? Lazy, I guess is the kind way to put it? Or is she just ho-hum dull? Maybe she's bored. It is February, ya know..
Details, kiddo, details. You have to start with the softest aid/cue, and work your way up. kestrel & HprsPoor and all of us would be glad to help..
Sorry you are sleep deprived, oh, my, I can't imagine 3 boys... Maybe the mare knows how tired you are, too:)
BHM, wow, cool a Shire Cutting Harse!
kestrel, thanks for the sheep tossing visual..
(snork)
Gator, on Thursday nights, you can HAVE Flip.
Details!!! I must have details of puppy dogs. Mandatory.
Callie wil be four this April. I have done all the ground work with her myself, and started (or tired) with small rides around the pasture last summer. She is dead sided and it takes kicking the crap out of her to get her to move. I don't want to do anything to really screw her up. Phoenix on the other hand doesn't stand still. And if Callie had that problem I would know how to handle it. I have horses from opposite ends of the spectrum. Lucky me.
I don't want to screw up the fact she is such a sweetheart otherwise. My oldest crawls all over her and she stands there like a 20 year old horse that has seen it all.
Nd- maybe she doesn't feel the need to be ridden. Is it really necessary?
I'm so glad someone else noticed the not-paying-attention thing. If I see one more person talking on his/her cell phone WHILE RIDING I'm going to snatch it away and throw it in a water bucket. It's not that important.
It's right up there with using a cell phone while using a public restroom. GAH. But I digress.
Well... Have a trainer tentatively lined up. He would like to get her out there the 1st of April. Since she has the basics, he is going to work her on his cows just to get her moving. Will keep you guys updated. Gotta go check his place out still.
NCC - Yeah it is. I have her and Phoenix. My only two full sized. And my oldest wants to start riding this summer. Plus my husband rides too... So...
Nd- maybe she would rather pursue another career path than the one you have chosen for her.
Send me her picture and for the low price of $29.95 I will read her to see what she is thinking.
I take paypal.
@ Meghan - I have mine with me when I ride. But I don't talk on it. I don't see the point of going riding if all you are going to do is flap your lips on the phone and not enjoy the ride.
*snort* good one NCC
What???????
Lol I already know what she is thinking. All about that round bale in the pasture... And the Strategy she will be getting tonight.
Oh yeah, I know what to look for. If the guy who trained Phoenix was still in bussiness, I would take her to him.
He got in a REALLY bad accident and doesn't train anymore. and when he still was it like 700+ for 30days. But he was VERY, VERY good.
This new one is charging 550 for 30 rides. Well I will be doing a through check on him and what not. And I plan on randomly stopping in too.
oh here is his website
NCC - There is a pic of Callie on my blog You can go "read" that if you want! >.<
Nd- I am not finding your payment in my paypal yet. Did you have any trouble sending it?
Paypal is having technical difficulties...
lol No I just wanted you to see hwat she looked like.
Hey, I'll read her for nothing, NdA.
She looks sleeeepy, very sleeeepy
:):)
Cute babies on the web-site, what is with the stallion pic, though?
Kinda weird looking neck, or something..
Butch is way prettier than him:)
Better bread, too.
Butch is from England, dontcha know:)
which pic are you talking about GL?
Nd- okay, okay. I am doing a complimentary reading for you. Here goes:
Phoenix is saying "Hungry, want to be fed treats"
Callie is saying "Hungry, want to be fed treats"
Blossom is saying "Hungry, want to be fed treats"
I can never make money with my gift
Paying attention...that is something that is sometimes easier said than done.
Like when you are worrying about wether or not you will have money in your account for both your car payment AND groceries (mr. horse is taken care of FIRST so he need not worry)...My boy is a bit of a space cadet- for a QH (cross) anyway. I've corrected my obvious posture flaws and practiced halting off of the seat, and low and behold he's much calmer now.
However, being aware of him VS catering to his phobias...I know when he will spook, and I have to make sure that I don't acknowledge the 1.slamming barn door 2. snow sliding off the arena 3. children TALKING 4. the sound of footsteps in the snow outside 5. the wind rattling the crap out of the arena 6. the supposed invisible gremlin that lives in our far end...
He is a very "sensitive" little boy. He takes interest in a cow, that is about a concession away. If he can hear something he wants to see it, and I think that's why he is much sillier INSIDE than outside.
I don't like to think that I get NERVOUS, per sae, but the anticipation and overall awareness of how something will play out VS how I will react can sometimes make me a bit...worried?
We had an animal communicator at the barn one day, a few months ago, (maybe it was bogus but it was emotional nonetheless) and she said that my horse totally needs to know his boundaries and that that would help him tremendously. She also said I need to stop riding around with a weeks worth of stress on my shoulders, becuase that translates out to being BAD NEWS for ma boy.
So I realized that I was subconsciously mulling about finances, when I should have been focusing on where the heck my inside leg should be staying.
My tip, to be FULLY aware, is leave everything at the gate(or door) before you ride.
If you're waist deep in weekly bull**** then you truly won't be paying close enough attention to
where his eyes are looking, what his mouth is doing, what his ears are listening to, wether or not he is stiff-or not focused, and the inevitable "screw you buddy youre not paying attention" drama.
I read in a book, "the tao of equus" that horses dont care what mood you're in. You can be sad, you can be mad, you can be glorious, all that is to them is information. If you pretend to be happy when you're really sad, they don't get it. They don't understand incongruence. If a horse is pissed, he's pissed. He doesn't pretend to like you, he just sticks his ears back and plays ignorant.
In that way I guess we can learn a lot from them, in that we shouldn't hide what we are really feeling...thats what manes are for...to catch our little human tears
Poor NCC, and such talent too.
Well said Nicely Dun-
And Nd.
GoLightly
Are you scuffling with Sarcasta?
I choked on the whole twit thing, snorked over, Oh because you are.
lol
NicelyDun
"My tip, to be FULLY aware, is leave everything at the gate(or door) before you ride. "
Didn't I say that?
I should have.
Thanks.
Horses are always right now. They live, now. This minute.
Arenas are boring, I get that from reading your dun horse.
That will be 12,000 dollars, pleez.
No, Dena, she just hates my smiling avatar. My ridiculous comments.
I should be scowling, I guess.
grrrrrrrr, oh, I feel SO much better!
(not)
NdA, the pic of the Stallion, Twisted something or other?
It's an odd pic, is all.
Well bred horse, funny looking pic... Nice head, kind eye, sorta llama necked, just from the way the pic is taken.
In my humble opinion.
berry, berry, humble. The foals/colts from this stallion are gorgeous.
Butch is not nearly as well, Butch has next to no neck. I admit that freely.
He was slaughter bound, after all...
NCC, LOL!!
LOL you might have said it! Maybe I ... wasn't paying attention...
And arenas ARE boring. But handy.
happy birthday to the flip
(I don't internet shop much, I'll have to send you a post dated check in the snail mail instead...for that reading...)
Nicely- GL has paypal.
*headdesk* I didn't even look at his studs. Or the horses he was producing...
Well, I am not going there for breeding so...
NdA, now don't do that!
Head/Desk HURTS. That trainer's colts are lovely. I think they photo-shopped the Stud pic, kinda wrongly, is all. I won't send the pic to the dark side... So everyone can sneer....
Humph. Why do people think they are perfect?? I Hate sneering.
NicelyDun, nope, I didn't say it. And I should have, so nice catch, young 'un.
Hey, I'm way old, I'm allowed to say that!
Horses have very sensitive emotional feelers, 4 SURE. Channel your inner fearlessness, he'll feel it, and be braver. Maybe:)
It does help not to think too far ahead.. Horses sure don't. Arenas are so deadly dull, have you got a dog you could chase around?
That's always fun! Maybe chase your friend, or your enemy, if need be.
Do you know Jennifer Grey, NicelyDun? She broke the black Trakehner horse I blogged about. I'm not blaming her for the horse's bad breakage, mind, the Farmer was no bloody help at all.
I was so happy that she got to jump in the "big leagues".
SNAIL mail? Hah. Sorry, I do not take snail mail payments, cheques made out to cash, only.
Butch is available for breading...
I have an EVIl idea.
Let's post tons of comments on FernValleys Blog.
She'll come home to trillions of comments.
mwahahahah!!!

Hey did you see the "lovely" product on Tacky tack today? OMG it's asking for a lawsuit
No, Nd- send link, please. I never go there

I posted pictures BHM...Well everybody.
Go look...Feel free to comment.
Okay...hhhmmmpphh...where has everyone gone?
Are you all lurking over at her place?
Go? I insist. I demand...Oh hell, I'll ask nice.
Can we set a time for everyone to get together here?
This is like when they openfranchised the phone companies.
No one knows where to be?
And when.
Hey All...
Just shoot me after spending the last 6.5 hours on the computer labeling client xrays with their ID number! I guess I can't complain too much as at least I get to work from home most days cept when I am subbing for a tech.
Sheep!
We used to do sheepin. And obedience trials. I have 3 shelties...lost one to cancer almost 2 years ago and that still aches...a BM boy who is 11, a BB girl who is 13 and a tri girl who is also 13. The tri girl is deaf as a stump but she dosn't care. She reponds to hand signals...handy training from obedience days. We stopped trialing when we decided we had nothing we wanted to prove to anyone. Instead, we did pet therapy and all 4 were certified. The girl I lost and the BM boy was/is assistance trained and the boy also tracks.
Now....we've retired to the farm. They enjoy being farm dawgs which involves helping me feed (and get a snack), following me around as I do chores (and snacking on poop), and supervising. When we are inside, they are clustered around me either on the floor or in my lap competing with the cats.
Did I mention I'm a harper? I don't think so. i have a rocker out near the fenceline where I sit sometimes while the horses eat. Very restful...as you all know...listening to tha crunchcrunchcrunch. Sometimes I take one of my harps outside an play while the light is disappearing. The horses stand by the fence and listen with their lower lips drooping and eyes half closed.
Horses and harps...a good therapeutic combination for the soul.
ZK
NNC....you like Morgans?
ZK
oops...NCC we meant....
zk
NdA...did you do her "horsinality"?
*snerk*
zk
shoot...I get here and y'all run away...

::draggin toe in dirt::
K.
I'm going now.
really.
bye.

That's my problem Dena. I'm always late to the party. I try to get to everyone's blog to check in daily...and I end up just missing the fun! :) Once in awhile I get lucky.
So many blogs, so little time.
GL,
LOVE your dream. The first thing I will add to your wonderful set-up is a room in the back for me and reserve a couple of stalls for my fellas (my horses can stay with me! HA! I kill me!) :)
ZK and SWA
You are both very funny girls.
ZK? A harpist? Wow...We may have a use for you I bet you don't have any fingerprints left to leave.
JK...Kind of...Must defer to CCC on this.
SWA I was beginning to worry about you.
From now on you must check in.lol
See you girls somewhere tomorrow.
G'Night All...
Zk- a harper? Or harpist? How cool is that?
I think Morgans are a cool breed from what I have read, cannot say I have ever actually met one. Is that what you have?
I did not see you at FV's last night, gotta speak up, never know who is lurking, or passed out.
Glad you decided to stick around, we are an odd bunch but very comical. Humor, you know, is good for the soul. And the internet.
Plus it keeps GL here and the internet safe.
Harper. Celtic mainly. Love the music!
No I have TW/TB and a QH. I came across a Morgan mare in NC needing a home with an experienced person or someone willing to send her to a trainer. She's gorgeous and I would love to put my hands on her, but am not comfortable working with her particular issue her by myself. She's 20 I think and in great shape. Free with papers to the right home. Extremely easy keeper. I have a picture if you would like to see her. Not in any danger of going to auction. Let me know if you are curious or know a good experienced horseperson.
zk
Should say harpers are celtic lever harp players and harpists are those who play the big gold things that could squash you if you lean wrong...
zk
ZK,
Loving the humor. Sorry you missed the party.
Love Celtic harp. I play recorder, tin whistle, and pip gorn. A pip gorn, for the inquiring minds, is a early British pipe.
"The horses stand by the fence and listen with their lower lips drooping and eyes half closed."
That sounds too adorable.
SWA,
I love the photo on your DI. Did you take it? Is it of you place?
Fellow musicians!!! I play the radio, how coincidental is that?
No room at the inn for another, ZK. But will keep my ears open if I run across anyone.
Morgans can be exceptionally goofy.
My old boy, when younger, teamed up with our German Shepherd to chase cars. Lurking in corner of pasture...waiting for old farmer buddy....offf they'd go. Old farmer in old truck with at least one buddy to see the show, horse and dog inside pasture...the race was on. Panting, tongue lolling stop at other end of pasture for horse and dog, waiting for old farmer to go down and turn around to do it all over again. Why did I not think to buy a vidio camera?! Oh yeah, that darned money thingy...
K,
What a funny Morgan. Just loved it.
